Staying in the Center of Melbourne


For a more reasonably priced accommodation, check out the St. Kilda which is also home to some fine hotels on the beachside. There is a large amount of pubs with live music around St. Kilda. The Central Business District Melbourne is a bay side city, although it feels more like an inland metropolis.

The Yarra river is not far away from the city centre where you can get a water taxi up and down the river. The old and the new are mixed to give a great combination and one can see the beautiful aquarium which is located right next to the tram line that has 85 year old trams still running.

The tallest building in the southern hemisphere was once the Rialto building up until recently and it overlooks century old churches. The Central District has lots of theatres, loads of bars and restaurants and a great variety of shops and shopping centres. It also boasts two universities. With lots of accommodation in this area for the tourist, which share the area with the Australian Stock Exchange and several banking houses. On the East of the centre is beautiful parkland as well as the favourite sporting venue of Melbourne, which is the Cricket Ground.
