Shopping in Melbourne


The Central Business District has great shopping areas and on Swanston street, one can stroll through the pedestrian zone and visit the billion dollar Melbourne Central Shopping centre. And Collins street is much more exclusive with lots of luxury shops. Bourke street has lots of department stores and is the most popular and the oldest part of the city. On the southern bank of the river Yarra is the Southgate Shopping area.

South Yarra has the famous Chapel Street with lots of boutiques and luxury designer shops. Greville Street is a lot more cooler with cool fashion stores, markets at the weekend. There is a great craft market in St. Kilda at the weekend. With Little Bourke Street being the fabulous Chinatown quarters, Lygon Street being part of the Italian quarter, Richmond has now become the Vietnamese area, where the locals call it , Little Saigon.

Bargains can be found in Bridge Road and Swan Street. There is a shopping spree bus that will bring you through the backstreets to warehouse and factory shops which have great bargains. Enquire in the information centre about this tour. South Melbourne is famous for its market and the cafe scene. At Albert Park, the Grand Prix is located and is very popular spot with lovely walks around here.
